Giving Up &

Taking up

In this holy season we choose to intentionally consider the rhythms of our lives and give up distraction, isolation, and undue busyness. We de-clutter and refocus in order to . . .

Take up:

Living in Generosity

  • Relationships: reach out to an alienated member of your family or in your neighborhood

  • Time: Joining a cell / devoting weekly time to communal discipleship

  • Possessions: inviting someone to eat at your table

  • Money: support local commerce and supporting godly charities

  • Attitude: “honor one another above yourself” “do not think of yourself more highly than you ought to think

Growing in Humility

  • “honor one another above yourself” - Romans 12:10

  • “do not think of yourself more highly than you ought to think” - Romans 12:3

  • The practice of confession

  • Giving others the benefit of the doubt

  • Quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to become angry

The Pursuit of Unity

  • Choose not to slander a fellow family member in the faith

  • Become a Member of the church

  • Intentionally gather with believers in vulnerability - in small numbers.

  • Identify members of the church whose names you don’t yet know, and commit to learn them

Gospel rootedness

  • Read through one of the Gospels

  • Read the daily prayers of Venite on the website

  • Celebrate on Sunday - break the fast every Sunday, celebrate the resurrection.
