Teach us, in this Advent season, to find beauty in simplicity, to find riches in plain living, to find self-worth in self-giving, that we may be truly prepared for the day of our Lord's coming, who came not as an almighty king but as a child born in a cowshed, and who gave his life as servant for our salvation.
Almighty God, author of peace and lover of harmony, who through the voices of the prophets foretold the coming of one who would speak peace to the nations, we ask that you would turn our hearts from pride of national power, from the madness of war, and from a foolish trust in the security we make for ourselves, so that we may be ready to celebrate the birth of the messiah when he comes. He is the Prince of Peace. He is Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
