Teach us, in this Advent season, to find beauty in simplicity, to find riches in plain living, to find self-worth in self-giving, that we may be truly prepared for the day of our Lord's coming, who did not come as a mighty king but as a child born in a cowshed, and who gave his life as servant for our salvation.
Almighty God, you spoke through the prophets and gave us words of hope. We have longed to see your Messiah, the one who would come to free your people from bondage. We pray that you would stir us through their words, so that our hearts may be prepared in eager waiting and that our hopes may be sustained through the dark days of winter by their assurance of the bright day of the coming of our Lord, in whose name we pray. Amen
