Teach us, in this Advent season, to find beauty in simplicity, to find riches in plain living, to find self-worth in self-giving, that we may be truly prepared for the day of our Lord's coming, who chose not to come as a mighty king but as a child born in a cowshed, and who gave his life as servant for our salvation.
In this holy season, and on this holy day, O God, clear our spirits from the concerns over material things. Rid our minds of an obsession with trinkets and the tinsel, for our greed distracts us from your incarnate Word, and it then so quickly vanishes from our sight. We ask that, like the shepherds, we may travel towards you, bringing only the pure and simple devotions of faith and hope and love. Amen
