Workers in Our City

God our Father, we turn to you and ask for your help:

The concerns we have been holding are too heavy to carry

The anxiety of the unknown has clouded our thinking

The sound of discord is piercing and discouraging

Thus, we have many times wondered how we might “get away” and rarely wondered how we might help

We have tried to tune out cries for help, and retreat into self-preservation

But you have called us to something different, and so we will advocate for our neighbors and ready ourselves to give reason for the hope that is within

Lord, today we think of the business owners and workers in our city.

We thank you that you give dignity and purpose to our work. We thank you that you have gifted us to use our hands and our minds to contribute to the commerce and livelihood of our city.

We ask now that you preserve these livelihoods, and keep our neighbors from falling into unemployment. See us through this time of uncertainty and confusion.

[Take a moment and pray silently for whoever God has brought to mind]

Lord, hear our prayer. Amen
